Whakaari / White Island, New Zealand’s dramatic volcano, located 52kilometers off the Bay of Plenty coastline. A unique journey to awaken your curiosity, to see something ancient, alive and unforgettable with views from above of moon-like surfaces, ash felt floors, billowing towers of steam, crystals etched in sulphur and the highly acidic crater lake in the island's depths.
Discovered by Captain Cook back in 1769. White Island is rich in history, being part of a link in a chain of volcanoes called the Pacific Ring of Fire. Rusted ruins remain of the old mining factory built in the 1900s and were used to gather sulphur for its many uses.
Enjoy breath-taking views as you fly over the active volcano, learning about the history of Mother Nature’s creativity with full commentary provided by your pilot. On route keep your eyes peeled for schools of fish, whales, and dolphins.
